LEO CURBELO

Leo was influenced by is father, who was a composer, an admirer of Carlos Gardel, and who demonstrated an infinite love of tango.  Leo learned the
2 X 4 at a very young age and received lessons from Canto Lirico (Italy).

He trained with various famous tango professors in Buenos Aires and mastered different styles such as Milonguero and Canyengue, and later developed his own unique style.  Leo performed in countless venues throughout Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Brazil, and Italy, as well as in Georgia and Miami.  He was also part of the "Tango in Motion" company which showcased in the Fountainebleau Hilton's Tropigala Club in Miami Beach, as well as in various other local hotels and theaters.

Together with his partner, Monique, Leo developed and patented a new learning technique called "Step on Floor in Motion System."  Leo and Monique continue teaching tango classes using this method, and perform in shows, private parties, and special events.  In 2006, they performed in Hallandale, Hialeah, Pembroke Pines and various other Florida cities.  Leo and Monique were showcased in Miami's 8th Street Cultural Fridays Festival, and were interviewed in Channel 41's "Quiereme Descalzi" talk show. They were also recently interviewed in the popular radio show "Zona Cero" on 92.3 FM, and were featured in GEN TV television program.  Currently, Leo and Monique teach in Hollywood's International Club of Argentine Tango.

 

 


 

                    MONIQUE NICHOLS

Monique was born in a neighborhood called Palermo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  She is the daughter of a famous 1940s milonguero, and as a result, she was influenced by the music of the times and learned to dance tango by age 10.

By age 20, Monique was dancing professionally.  She also acquired experience by acting in movie, theatre and television roles.  Monique toured throughout Latin America demonstrating intimate knowledge of Argentinean tango, and in 1979, settled in Miami, Florida, where she pioneered the organization of "milongas" and taught tango classes.  She has danced in various hotels, including the Fountainebleau Hilton's Tropigala Club, the Carlton Hotel in Key Biscayne, and the Gran Bay Hotel in Coconut Grove.  She has also performed in many private parties and conventions.
